Freedom In Christ

Q: Anyone remember movie Shawshank Redemption?
Q: When in your life have you felt what it means to be FREE?
Q: What kind of freedom did Jesus bring to us? Jesus came to set us FREE so we would experience the abundant life!
Luke 4:18-19 NIV
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
John 8:34-36 NIV
Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
2 Corinthians 3:17 NIV
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”

Romans 6:7,20,22 NIV
[7] because anyone who has died has been set free from sin. [20] When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. [22] But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.
-let me help you get free from sin!
-You’re carrying too much guilt, too much sin, too many burdens
Galatians 5:13 NIV
[13] You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh ; rather, serve one another humbly in love.
2 Peter 2:17-20 NLT
[17] These people are as useless as dried-up springs or as mist blown away by the wind. They are doomed to blackest darkness. [18] They brag about themselves with empty, foolish boasting. With an appeal to twisted sexual desires, they lure back into sin those who have barely escaped from a lifestyle of deception. [19] They promise freedom, but they themselves are slaves of sin and corruption. For you are a slave to whatever controls you. [20] And when people escape from the wickedness of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and then get tangled up and enslaved by sin again, they are worse off than before.
Romans 7:24-25 NLT
[24] Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? [25] Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.
Romans 8:2 NLT
[2] And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.

Galatians 5:13 NIV
[13] You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature ; rather, serve one another in love.
1 Peter 2:16-17 NIV
[16] Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. [17] Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.
-using your freedom as a cover up for evil

[24] One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. [25] A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.
Matthew 10:8 NIV
[8] Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.

1 Corinthians 9:19,22 NIV
[19] Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. [22] To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.

2 Corinthians 6:11-13 NIV
[11] We have spoken freely to you, Corinthians, and opened wide our hearts to you. [12] We are not withholding our affection from you, but you are withholding yours from us. [13] As a fair exchange—I speak as to my children—open wide your hearts also.

James 1:25 NIV
[25] But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.
