Chosen By God

Ever have an idea of what it means to be “chosen” by God?
Ex. Sometimes our idea is not the same as God’s idea…..our picture of what that looks like not the same as God’s picture!

1 Chronicles 28:1-3

King David took down Goliath, led Israel to great victories, worships God, is faithful and has “dream” to build a temple for Ark of Covenant.

1 Chronicles 28:2-3 NLT

[2] David rose to his feet and said: “My brothers and my people! It was my desire to build a Temple where the Ark of the LORD’s Covenant, God’s footstool, could rest permanently. I made the necessary preparations for building it, [3] but God said to me, ‘You must not build a Temple to honor my name, for you are a warrior and have shed much blood.’

God says “You’re not the one to build my temple”

1. HEART OF CHOSEN GRATITUDE!

David responds with GRATITUDE!

1 Chronicles 28:4 NLT

[4] “Yet the LORD, the God of Israel, has chosen me from among all my father’s family to be king over Israel forever. For he has chosen the tribe of Judah to rule, and from among the families of Judah he chose my father’s family. And from among my father’s sons the LORD was pleased to make me king over all Israel.

David says…..

1 Chronicles 29:13-15 NLT

[13] “O our God, we thank you and praise your glorious name! [14] But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to you? Everything we have has come from you, and we give you only what you first gave us! [15] We are here for only a moment, visitors and strangers in the land as our ancestors were before us. Our days on earth are like a passing shadow, gone so soon without a trace.
Grateful response, I don’t deserve this response, I’m just glad I’m chosen response!!

David chose TO TRUST GOD’S will over his own idea…..

2. CHOSEN TO KNOW AND LEARN WHO GOD IS!

1 Chronicles 28:9-10 NLT

[9] “And Solomon, my son, learn to know the God of your ancestors intimately. Worship and serve him with your whole heart and a willing mind. For the LORD sees every heart and knows every plan and thought. If you seek him, you will find him. But if you forsake him, he will reject you forever. [10] So take this seriously. The LORD has chosen you to build a Temple as his sanctuary. Be strong, and do the work.”

Learn to Know God!
Q: What have you learned about God thru the years?
-God of Patience
-God of Forgiveness and Mercy
-God Who Comes Through

Learn God with whole heart and willing mind!
Fully engaged, Fully Focused
(not distracted, not swayed, not up and down or in and out)
Seek Him and you’ll Find Him….
SO TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY……
-How serious are you? How determined are you to seek Him and learn God?

1 Chronicles 28:20 NLT

[20] Then David continued, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Don’t be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. He will see to it that all the work related to the Temple of the LORD is finished correctly.

3. CHOSEN EVEN IF YOUNG AND NO EXPERIENCE

1 Chronicles 29:1 NLT

[1] Then King David turned to the entire assembly and said, “My son Solomon, whom God has clearly chosen as the next king of Israel, is still young and inexperienced. The work ahead of him is enormous, for the Temple he will build is not for mere mortals-it is for the LORD God himself!

4. CHOSEN TO BUILD AND SACRIFICE

1 Chronicles 29:3 NLT

[3] “And now, because of my devotion to the Temple of my God, I am giving all of my own private treasures of gold and silver to help in the construction. This is in addition to the building materials I have already collected for his holy Temple.

1 Chronicles 29:9 NLT

[9] The people rejoiced over the offerings, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the LORD, and King David was filled with joy.

1 Chronicles 29:11-12 NLT

[11] Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O LORD, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things. [12] Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand, and at your discretion people are made great and given strength.

1 Chronicles 29:17 NLT

[17] I know, my God, that you examine our hearts and rejoice when you find integrity there. You know I have done all this with good motives, and I have watched your people offer their gifts willingly and joyously.

WHAT WE ARE BUILDING AND SACRIFICE FOR IS FOR GOD, NOT JUST FOR OURSELVES….
-Cannot become a disciples on foundation of selfishness
Q: How much do you sacrifice and give? Not just money, but all your heart, mind to build Kingdom Of God?
David challenges Solomon his son!
Allow people to challenge us, allow people to remind us, allow people to call our faith higher and be stronger!!
