We Have Hope

We Have Hope

Why do large ships on the ocean need an anchor?
Once we were on a ferry boat from Port Angeles to Canada. The ocean waves were so rough, people began falling. We heard over the mic “everyone take your seat” and “hold on.” All you saw was water out the window!! The boat was rocking back and forth so much…..scary moment!

What is our anchor…..what keeps our emotions and feelings and faith steady, sure, through tough times…..

Hebrews 6:19 NIV

“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain,”

Where is your hope?
What does it mean to have hope in God alone? So easy to put our hope in the things of the world.
-hope I make more money
-hope I get this job
-hope we can buy this house

So many things happen in life which can shake the world we live in. They can upset our comfort or rock our confidence.

Q: How do you handle life’s problems and challenges? We want to avoid, then run from relationship problems, hurts and disappointments.
Q: How do you handle personal failure, personals sins and guilt?

REMEMBER……we were at one time separate from Christ….
Q: How can we be separate from Christ and be at church all time??

Ephesians 2:12-13 NIV

“Remember at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.”

Q: What was it like to study Bible to become a disciple?
Remember heart to repent?
Remember the heart to please God?
Remember heart to read and pray?

Q: What does it feel like to have no hope…..be hopeless…….“Without hope”?

Ephesians 4:17-19 NLT

“With the Lord’s authority I say this: Live no longer as the Gentiles do, for they are hopelessly confused. Their minds are full of darkness; they wander far from the life God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against him. They have no sense of shame. They live for lustful pleasure and eagerly practice every kind of impurity.

Q: Ever talk to someone who is hopelessly confused?
Q: Ever been the person who is hopelessly confused? How does this happen?

Psalm 94:18-19 NLT

I cried out, “I am slipping!” but your unfailing love, O LORD, supported me. When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.

Psalm 143:4-10 NLT

“I am losing all hope; I am paralyzed with fear. I remember the days of old. I ponder all your great works and think about what you have done. I lift my hands to you in prayer. I thirst for you as parched land thirsts for rain. Come quickly, LORD, and answer me, for my depression deepens. Don’t turn away from me, or I will die. Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you. Rescue me from my enemies, LORD; I run to you to hide me. Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing.”

Dare To Love With All Your Heart

Lamentations 3:21-24 NLT

“Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, “The LORD is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!”
Renew your hope each morning.
Renew your faith every day.
Refresh your spirit with hope in God’s promises.

Romans 15:4 NLT

“Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled.” The Scriptures give us hope and encouragement! The Scriptures teach us how to be patient and faithful.
When we decide to stop reading the Scriptures….our faith weakens, love stops, hope fades!

Never forget when my then college age daughter took me to a U2 concert in Oakland, California. The entire stadium stood for a couple hours singing all their old songs during the concert! The crowd had deep love for their songs and message! They knew ever lyric and still enjoyed singing 20 year old songs!

We have been married now over 40 years. Some will say perhaps your love is all worn out…..too many “miles” on the marriage! How can your love grow, deepen and become richer through the years?

Have we become “so familiar” with God…..no longer the excitement and thrill? Have you heard the voice that says, “too many prayers unanswered.” “This is old now, I need something new…..something better?” Love deepens….deeper appreciation.

Deeper understanding…

Mark 12:29-31 TPT

Jesus answered him, “The most important of all the commandments is this: ‘The Lord Yahweh, our God, is one!’ You are to love the Lord Yahweh, your God, with every passion of your heart, with all the energy of your being, with every thought that is within you, and with all your strength. This is the great and supreme commandment. And the second is this: ‘You must love your neighbor in the same way you love yourself.’ You will never find a greater commandment than these.”

Dare To Rejoice In Trials

Romans 5:3-6 NLT

“We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners.”

Dare To Be Confident In Hope!

Colossians 1:4-6 NLT

“For we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and your love for all of God’s people, which come from your confident hope of what God has reserved for you in heaven. You have had this expectation ever since you first heard the truth of the Good News. This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace.”
