Is God Enough?

Psalm 73:1-5  (NCV)   “God is truly good to Israel, to those who have pure hearts.  But I had almost stopped believing; I had almost lost my faith because I was envious of proud people.  I saw wicked people doing well.  They are not suffering; they are healthy and strong.  They don’t have troubles like the rest of us; they don’t have problems like the rest of us.”

Q: What happens when we stop believing that God is enough?

  • Lose our faith
  • Fill up with envy  (envy in friendships, become possessive and controlling)
  • Fill up with competitiveness towards others
  • Consumed with ourselves
  • Consumed with people’s approval
  • Isolated
  • Lose our way:
    • Have you ever lost your way?
    • Think you don’t need direction? Live like we need no advice?
    • Growing in pride…….we “lean on our own understanding” Proverbs 3:5
    • Proverbs 3:7 “do not be wise in your own eyes……”
    • Think you know best.  (Like drifting out on the ocean……before you know it you are way out there.)

Psalm 73:15-17  (NCV)  “God, If I had decided to talk like this, I would have let your people down.  I tried to understand all of this, but it was too hard for me to see until I went to the Temple of God.

The Presence of God……Temple

Finding God:  (This is different than the religious “I just give it to God”)

  • Throughout the day…………………………….In every circumstance!
  • In talks, with people…………………………….In Bible studies, prayer!
  • In discouragement and joy  (God is all I have, exhausted faith, physically tired of praying, saying the same things……over and over but God says to keep at it!

Matthew 7:7-8 “Keep on asking and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking and you will find. Keep on knocking and the door will be opened to you! For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. Everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”

God is Enough!

  • Love God…Confidence in His Word

Psalm 119:98-100  (NLT) “Oh, how I love your law!  I meditate on it all day long.  Your commands are always with me and make me wiser than my enemies.  I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes.  I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts.”    (When you made Jesus Lord, baptized as a disciple you made a decision that God’s word is your confidence.  That means when you doubt, are happy, or you struggle or have conflict; God’s word is where you go for answers. Not go to books, not FA’s, not people’s opinions AND not your FEELINGS)

Matthew 4:4 “Man will not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

Matthew 8:8 “……just say the word and my servant will be healed.”

Matthew 24:35 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”

  • Seek God….Needs Will be Met

Matthew 6:33  (NLT) “Seek the kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”

2 Cor 9:8  (NLT)  “And God will generously provide all you need.  Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.”

  • What do you seek?  The kingdom above all else?
  • People and their approval or praise?
  • Financial security- that is great but are you seeking that above all else?
  • Trust God….Desires Will be Fulfilled

Psalm 37:4-5 (GNT)  “Seek your happiness in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desire.  Give yourself to the Lord; trust in him and he will help you.”

  • Who and what else are you going to trust?  Money?  Food?  Success? Your family? Spouse?  Girlfriend?  Hopes of a girlfriend?  Feeling like you did a good job at work?  Good grades?  Are you going to trust those things?
  • Where and Who will you put your trust?
