Humility

Humility

Proverbs 11:2
When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.

  • Pride, the proud does not bring wise decisions or wisdom – but only disgrace. “When” pride comes – it always comes – seems to never fail.

  • Humility is the decision to be teachable, be a learner, seek advice and reveal who I really am on the inside, what’s inside my heart.

Proverbs 18:12
Before his downfall a man’s heart is
proud, but humility comes before honor.

  • Do I want to know how proud I am? How am I suppose to see this sin and know just how much pride I have in my relationships? Asking others is only way.

  • Am I growing my pride or growing in humility?

  • What am I pursuing, making every effort to accomplish or grow in?

Proverbs 22:4
Humility and the fear of the LORD bring wealth and honor and life.

  • Really believe this statement? If I grow in humility, God will take care of my finances, debt, career, and worries of my life?

  • Or do I really believe that deceit, hiddeness, isolation and pride(doing it my own way) will bring wealth, honor and life?

Philippians 2:3
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in
humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as of Christ Jesus….made himself nothing……taking the very nature of a servant…..he humbled himself.

  • Do nothing out of selfish ambition – ambitions just for self – looking out for self interests, and not fully focused on others and how to serve, meet their needs.

  • Look not only to your own interests – but to the interest of others!

  • Your attitude! What is my attitude? When being taught or challenged – do I have a humble attitude or a critical one? Do I get angry inside – I don’t like looking weak, looking always like a failure and looking bad – pride and selfish ambition!

  • Why are we not able to help each other more in our lives? We are all about ourselves instead of helping one another grow!

Colossians 3:12
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved,
clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

  • Clothe yourselves – put these on first thing in the morning – do not walk outside without first clothing, wrapping your self tightly with:

    • Compassion-tenderhearted, feel for people so much you take action! You do not delay, but take action now!

    • Kindness-meanness is seeing people just die spiritually all around me – doing nothing to revive the dead, those choking on the world, their own sin and vomit.

    • Humility-being the first to talk about what I am afraid of, fearful about, prideful about, lust, greed, selfish about, deceitful about – putting my sins out there and setting an example.

    • Gentleness-anger is harsh, when I am fearful, I am not very gentle, patient with anyone

    • Patience-trusting and waiting that God will always come thru!

Psalm 138:6
Though the Lord is great, he cares for the
humble, but he keeps his distance from the proud.

  • There is no way the proud will be close to God

  • He is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Psalm 149:4
For the Lord delights in his people;
he crowns the humble with victory.

Isaiah 13:11
“I, the Lord, will punish the world for its evil and the wicked for their sin. I will
crush the arrogance of the proud and humble the pride of the mighty.

Isaiah 57:15
The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this: “I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are
contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.

Daniel 10:12
Then he said, “Don’t be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day you began to pray for understanding and to
humble yourself before your God, your request has been heard in heaven. I have come in answer to your prayer.
