5 Reasons To Stay Pure

5 Reasons Why Purity is Important

1. Destroys Character

Romans 5:3-5

– When you are incapable of persevering by saying no, you prevent God from producing character.

Proverbs 25:28

Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control.
– When you lack self-control, then you’re open to all kinds of attacks.

Titus 2:11-14

“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope–the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.”
– The only way to become someone who is self-controlled is to understand what you’re waiting for.
– Delayed Gratification – A willingness to not give into sin in the short-term, because you understand the big picture.

Hebrews 11:24-27

“By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible.

1 Peter 4:7

“The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray.”
– When you don’t work hard to be someone who is self-controlled, it will mess up your connection with God.
– How do you see your lack of self-control affecting your prayer life?

2. De-Humanizes Women

1 Thessalonians 4:3-8

– Passionate lust like the heathen
– Understanding who you’re watching
– Pornography
– So many of the women you watch are raped continually by the people who videotape.
– Prostitutes – Sacrificed themselves to survive.
– Provocatively Dressed Women
– 30% of all women have admitted eating disorders
– The level of insecurity that lives in women who dress to get attention is sad.
– Only know how to get love by the way they look
– Only security comes from men giving them attention

2 Samuel 13:1-22

– When a woman is dehumanized, she becomes taken advantage of.
– We learn from Amnon, that you don’t always realize it in the moment, it’s the guilt afterwards that exposes your true motive.

3. Produces a Heart of Unfaithfulness

Matthew 5:27-30

– Do you believe this scripture?
– When you spend your single life looking at women, how do you think that will effect your marriage?
– James 1, Romans 1
– Impurity is one of those sins that only gets worse because you want more and more. Deeper and deeper levels of it.
– How will this affect your marriage?
– You’ll eventually get bored with your wife and want variety.

Malachi 2:10-3:16

4. Prevents God From Moving

Genesis 39:1-23

– God needs us to have the heart to say ‘No’ to impurity, because he has a greater plan for our lives than just enjoying pleasure!
– What would have happened if Joseph would have given in?
– What do we learn about Joseph’s heart for avoiding impurity?
– Flee – How do you need to flee from sinful situations?
– Enticed Everyday – How determined do you have to be to deny impurity?

5. God Hates It

Matthew 5:8

– You don’t see God, when you live in impurity.

Numbers 25:1-17

Nehemiah 13:23-31
